Chris's grandma recently turned 90 and to celebrate, the whole family traveled to CO (which rarely happens these days due to geographical distance) to throw her a little party. let me just tell you that his grandma is the cutest grandma that ever did exist. she is the perfect combo of sweetness and sass and wisdom. i love her as much as if she were my own grandma.
*side note: Chris and i stayed with my bff and tried to spilt our time with them and his family. so these photos are kind of all over the place. luckily it all worked out and both parties were awesome with us going back and forth so many times.*
we went to dinner at her favorite indian restaurant the first night we were in town and she decided to give a little toast. she raised her glass and said "have lots of babies!" and that was that. we all laughed. hmmm... i wonder who she was referring to? ;)
the next day was her party and i don't think i've ever seen her happier than she was that day. she had so much fun and was so giddy to be surrounded by the people she loved.
the last day we were in town we had the best meal of our life. Nassima and her husband invited us over. they are good friends of the family, who also happen to live across the street from Chris's old house (the house he grew up in and the house his parents just moved out of after 25ish(?) years last year). the new owners were kind enough to let us take a look around inside. it was crazy to see how much it still looked like their house and so weird to think that house is no longer in our lives. it's funny how attached you get to a house. especially a house you didn't even live in. that place always felt like a second home to me.
so back to the best meal of our life... they invited us over for a late lunch/early dinner that Nassima had cooked from scratch, herself. she prepared for us, a traditional Afghani meal and let me tell you, it was DELISH. i was wishing my stomach was 10 times bigger so i could have kept scarfing my face with the most heavenly food to ever enter my belly. why can't you be my neighbor, Nassima? whyyyyyy? i wish i could pay her back for such a wonderful meal, but how do you pay someone back for the best meal of your life? not possible.
